â€Å"[Eighty percent] of women stated that the images portrayed on television, movies, fashion magazines, and advertising makes them feel insecure† (Hitz 1). Although certain companies have started campaigns to promote self-confidence within one’s own skin, society overpowers the mind of women when it comes to how a body should look. Billboards and commercial advertisements about how to lose weight and get fit in a short amount of time effects a person mind; by implying that the way they look is not enough to be considered beautiful. In order stop the standardization of women’s body, limiting the use of Photoshop and promoting a healthier lifestyle such as being comfortable in one’s own skin will create a larger and more positive impact on the media and could potentially change the people’s perspective of what is considered â€Å"pretty†. Society does a good job controlling people’s mind on what to think and how to act when it comes to one’s physical appearance. Based on the NYC Girl’s Project, a campaign launched by New York City to help young girls value their character rather than their appearance, â€Å"[Forty to eighty percent] of girls are dissatisfied with two or more parts of their body† (NYC Girl’s Project 1), illustrating that even at a young age, girls can become unhappy with their own body image due to what the media puts out.
